An Interview with EVA’s Executive Administrator Linzy Carothers

Linzy Carothers

Linzy Carothers is EVA’s executive administrator and works closely with her clients by overseeing project management, travel management, and various administration duties. She excels at updating websites, blogs, and videos, and has the ability to quickly learn any new software. She also dabbles in social media and graphic design, which makes her a well-rounded VA capable of tackling any task handed to her. Linzy is indispensable, not only to her clients, but her coworkers as well. With her sunny disposition and her willingness to offer compassion and support to those in need, Linzy is a light to the EVA team.

Tell us about yourself. Where do you live? What do you like to do for fun? Any hobbies or skills?

Hi, I’m Linzy, a mom and entrepreneur from the Midwest. I live in what I like to call rural Indiana, but my once-small town is quickly becoming the next hotspot. In my free time, you will find me hanging out with my family and friends. When I’m not out and about I enjoy spending time at home reading, playing outside, or using my imagination with my kiddos. I’m a goofy and kind-spirited soul trying to ground myself so I can be the most authentic version of myself for my family, friends, colleagues, and clients.

Why/how did you become a virtual assistant?

I became a virtual assistant when I decided to become an entrepreneur. I was tired of working for someone else and wanted to build something of my own. I wanted the time, freedom, and flexibility to be able to travel and be home with my family. I have a Bachelor’s of Science in Health Service Management, which is a fancy way to say a business degree on the healthcare side. I did a lot of research and honed in on all of the skills I can bring to the table. I placed bids on projects and applied to work at places that I thought I could make an impact and create meaningful work.

What do you love most about your job?

The entire EVA team makes this a remarkable place to be. We have a wonderful team and working culture here. I love my clients and the work I am able to do with them. Thanks to my clients, I have had access to unique projects that have allowed me to sharpen my skills and focus on the things I am passionate about.

What are you passionate about in the workplace?

In the workplace I am passionate about my clients and the work I do. I contribute ideas and engage in projects to be a valuable member of the team and help contribute to a positive working environment.

What do you bring to the table at EVA? What type of work do you do as a VA?

I started as a VA thinking I was going to be doing social media and graphic design. Since I’ve had experience I now do more traditional admin/executive assistant accounts. As a VA I am someone who will go the extra mile for my clients. I make sure all personal and professional bases are covered. I am kind and empathetic and have an optimistic perspective when things go south. I tackle new challenges that are presented to me.  If I don’t know a system/software/task, whatever it is, I will research and learn how to do it. This day and age, I can learn a lot of what I need to know from the internet.

What would you tell potential clients about why they should hire a VA?

Hire a VA to help you, if you don’t know what you need help with, hire a VA. A VA will help your everyday operations run smoother. You can be confident in knowing the small things (that usually add up to big things) are handled and taken care of. A VA can also help with the important personal details of life that business may keep you busy for (birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, etc).

If you don’t know how to delegate, hire a VA from EVA, we will teach you and work with you. VA’s understand the importance of time—freedom. Are there other areas of the business that you need to build? Do you want more time with your family? Do you want to travel? It doesn’t matter what your end goal is because a VA can help get you there. If you think you do not need a VA, consider an intro call. We wear many “hats” and can do more than what you may think.

What is something you wish people knew about being a VA?

It is not always easy to break into this industry, don’t give up. Make a plan and keep trying. The right client/project is right around the corner. Be picky about who you work with, if a client or a project doesn’t feel right, trust your gut. Ignoring red flags is only going to lead to a mess. Try new things and be open to doing work you think you may not like. You never know where your next opportunity lies.

What is something surprising or interesting about yourself that people might not know?

Typically people are surprised when I tell them I like rock & pop blues music. My current favorites are Our Last Night and Fame on Fire. My all time favorite is John Mayer. I’ve been listening to John Mayer for a decade, at least. I started listening to more rock music when my husband sent me an Our Last Night Disney cover on YouTube last year. I very much appreciate live music and listening to instrumental music. My dad was a wonderful musician and band teacher. He could (and did) play any instrument he picked up. I think that is why I love this music.
