An Interview with EVA’s All-Around VA Shamanee Willis

Shamanee Willis

Shamanee Willis is EVA’s resident sweetheart, who always comes to work with a smile and a huge heart of service. She is an all-around VA, providing her clients with work of various kinds. Rather than asking “What does she do?”, the better question is “What doesn’t she do?” Shamanee is proficient in graphic design, copywriting, social media management, scheduling, administration (such as invoicing), and project management, just to name a few of her skills. If her fellow co-workers need a helping hand, Shamanee is one of the first to offer hers. With her willingness to learn new things coupled with her drive for excellence, Shamanee is an indispensable member of the EVA team.

Tell us about yourself. Where do you live? What do you like to do for fun? Any hobbies or skills?

I live in NC and have 3 wonderful children. For fun I love to read and write. Sometimes I do some crafting, but I’m not super great at it!

Why/how did you become a virtual assistant?

I had spent a few months trying to figure out how to build a successful freelancing business on my own. I wanted the flexibility that comes with the freelancing life so that I could spend more time with my kids and have my own income for the first time in a decade. I hadn’t really gotten too far and I wasn’t necessarily looking to become a VA, but the VA life chose me!

What do you love most about your job?

The thing I love most about my job is knowing that I’m helping someone else get their life in order and helping them to be successful. I love the variety of work I get to do. I also love the incredible team I get the pleasure of working with every day. Each one of the team has become like family and I genuinely look forward to coming to work!

What are you passionate about in the workplace?

When it comes to the workplace, I feel that it is imperative that everyone feels comfortable talking with each other and being honest with each other. It is so important to have transparency and clear expectations. Being able to accept and give constructive feedback is also an important thing.

What do you bring to the table at EVA? What type of work do you do as a VA?

What do I bring to the table? Hopefully a positive attitude and a willingness to learn and help where I can. I do a variety of tasks as a VA: copywriting, scheduling/calendar management, project management, and inbox management. I also handle a variety of personal tasks for clients such as setting appointments and making reservations or helping with travel arrangements.

What would you tell potential clients about why they should hire a VA?

Maybe I’m biased, but I would say that a VA will definitely make your life easier! All of those tedious tasks that seem to eat up the extra time in the day can be passed on to someone who will actually enjoy doing it and free up your time to focus on other things. We’re able to help with so many different things.

What is something you wish people knew about being a VA?

I wish more people knew about the wide range of skills VAs have. Most people think of a VA as someone who takes care of their schedule, but there’s so much more we can do.

What is something surprising or interesting about yourself that people might not know?

In addition to being a complete Harry Potter nerd, I am also a proficient flutist. I would love to play for the state symphony one day or perform music for a movie soundtrack!

Thank you, Shamanee!
